How to store leftover Polymer clay

When you bring your clay home from the store, you open the package, condition your clay, and then make something. You bake your clay and feel happy with your finished project, but now what?  You have left over clay.

A question crosses your mind: “How do I store my clay?” You grab a plastic bowl with a lid from the kitchen and pick up your left over bits….STOP!

I speak from experience that store bought polymer clay such as Fimo and Sculpey will eat through certain types of plastics and Styrofoam.

My suggestion to polymer clay artists is to avoid storing your clay in hard plastic containers and Styrofoam. Instead, store your clay in any type of zippered freezer bags. I use gallon sized bags and quart sized bags.

The plastic bag will fade over time but it does not hurt the clay.

I also label the outside of the bag using masking tape and a Sharpee marker.

That is how I store my polymer clay. Tell me in the comments below how you store your clay.
